Q: I've been trying to find the black basalt stones while hiking in colorado. They are really slick and black and are usually heated and used for the hot stone massage.
Does anyone know, where in Colorado I could go to find these? They're sooooo expensive
A: Take a look at landscaping places and aquarium shops.
Both will sell them for MUCH less that you find at spots like massage warehouse, TH stone, and the like....

Ive looked up on Hot Stone Massages and have had endless detail about preparation of the person intended for the massage, but i cant seem to find any information on how to prepare the Stones.

You can use hot water and keep them in them for 30-40 minutes, just guessing as usually stones are made hot with the help of coal and then placing a metal sheet over it and then placing stones over the metal sheet until you feel them as hot as your body

Color does not matter, black just looks nice.
Main thing is NO SHARP EDGES.
Oh, and not too large - a 35 pound stone would be, uh, uncomfortable.

I was thinking I could use a hot plate with a ceramic bowl. Would the stones get hot enough?
Controlling the heat w/ a hot plate can be difficult. It is also not safe to put a ceramic bowl directly on a hot plate--even a Pyrex one. It's just like putting a bowl on a burner. Every spa I've ever worked in uses a turkey roaster. It's more shallow
