Why do conservatives want to keep the country from changing?

Q: We need to change like everyone else. The nations with the highest quality of life in the world are social democracies. Take Norway and Sweden for example. Their citizens are highly educated, have great healthcare, low crime, and low income inequality.

A: We've fought too hard to create a free republic and it has worked excellent for over 200 years. Why would we want to downgrade to socialism? There is a reason why the United States is so wealthy and successful. It is because of freedom.
