It's a pretty good piece of writing. I like the beginning, how it's not just first person, but you developed the way he would write.
Such as, He AIN'T going to show it, tomorrow when they came by the tavern.

Pretty average, to be honest. Try shaping your characters with history. But then again, I'm one of those rare people who prefers first person view. I find a lot of people write third person in a very clinical way; try avoiding this; and never use ono
